I find it a bit frustrating that there has been a whole series of bad and skeptical attitudes towards the Kony 2012 campaign. I'm a naturally cynical and sarcastic person who loves to take pot-shots and kick 'em when they're down, but the relentless glee that the press and online hipsters took in degrading and poo-pooing the Kony 2012 founders and movement alike lost sight of what was achieved.
Try to remember what exactly was accomplished by this viral video instead of what wasn't accomplished. Before I watched the video (which most people agree was nicely done and a moving piece of work) I had heard of the LRA and had a vague idea of what sort of things they did in central Africa. I didn't know who Joseph Kony was. Now I have a clearer understanding of the scope of the atrocities committed by this monster of a man. Score one for the IC. One complaint is that the video left out or oversimplified the geopolitical circumstances in the area of central Africa, to which I say; so fucking what? In fact, all of the criticisms of and strange behavior of the IC members do not detract one iota from my admiration of the goals of the movement and what they've achieved.
